About ShiftRotations

ShiftRotations is a free toolkit for people who work shifts — firefighters, nurses, police officers, plant operators, warehouse and restaurant teams — and for the managers who build their schedules.

Who builds it

ShiftRotations is built and maintained by Haroon. Haroon designs, builds and tests every tool on the site, researches each rotation and pay rule, and keeps the pages up to date. The goal is simple: free tools that give the right answer quickly, work well on a phone and don't ask for your email.

How the tools are built and checked

• Tested maths. Rotations, hours, overtime, PTO and tax calculations run on code covered by automated tests. For example, every built-in 24/7 rotation is checked so that exactly one team covers each shift on every day of the cycle.
• Official sources. Pay and overtime rules are checked against primary sources such as the U.S. Department of Labor, the Code of Federal Regulations, the IRS and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and linked on the page.
• Worked examples. Each calculator page shows a worked example, and the calculator is tested against it.
• Dated and reviewed. Pages show when they were last updated. Time-sensitive pages — like the scheduling app comparison and the tax calculator — are rechecked regularly.

Your data

The tools run in your browser. There is no sign-up, and the schedules, time cards and pay figures you enter are not stored on our servers. See the privacy policy.

ShiftRotations is not affiliated with any employer, union, fire or police department, hospital or government agency. Rotations and pay rules vary from place to place, so always check your own schedule, contract and state law. If we ever earn from a link, it will be clearly labeled and it won't change what we recommend.
